A bit of my story

My name’s Flavia Maria, but please, just call me Maria! I’ve been behind the camera for over a decade, and honestly, it’s my heart’s work. I plan to be snapping photos long after my hands are wrinkled and AI takes over (though hopefully not anytime soon).

Proudly Texas-grown but now deeply rooted in the Fleurieu, I started out with a humble click-and-shoot, capturing moments and flooding Facebook albums every weekend, a classic millennial origin story. Then came photography school, and years spent chasing golden light and real stories. From weddings across my beloved Texas to the stunning landscapes of South Australia, I poured my heart into every frame.

Joyful, chaotic, and full of magic, weddings were my first love. Becoming a mom of two sparked a desire to capture more of family life: maternity, newborns, and family shoots. Love in the Fleurieu lets me bring all of that, my craft, my experience, and my love for this beautiful place together to tell love stories in all its forms.

My life snapshot

I’m a mum to one sweet daughter and one spirited son who keep me on my toes and fill my days with equal parts chaos and joy. I’m married to a bearded Aussie who won me over while we were both living abroad in Taiwan (he eventually convinced me to move to Australia: a pretty pivotal life choice, if you ask me).

Our home is basically a small zoo: two cats, a dog, and even a leaf bug who happily munches gum leaves on the kitchen counter. As a family, we love the beach, cheeky Friday night pizzas, and walking our dog, Zara, along the esplanade.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me weightlifting—one of my favourite ways to stay strong and healthy as parenting gets more athletic. Somewhere in between, I put my politics and international relations degree to work in a part-time role that keeps my brain sharp.

I’m a multi-passionate, creative soul with plenty of life experience and deep empathy for people, which I hope shines through in my work and how I care for clients.
